Strategic tariff dialogue brings utility companies of the BES- Islands together on Bonaire

Kralendijk, June 13th , 2025 — Utility companies from the BES islands gathered this week in Bonaire for a series of meetings with the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), with a primary focus on regulation and tariff policies for the coming years.

Representatives from Statia Utility Company N.V. (STUCO), Sint Eustatius; Saba Electric Company, Saba; Contour Global Bonaire (CGB); and Water- en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) participated in this important dialogue with ACM, where they also discussed:

  • The growing demand for energy and the necessary investments in infrastructure;
  • The pressures accompanying the energy transition;
  • Concerns about the reduction of subsidies for consumers, which could negatively impact operations and service continuity.

The dialogue on tariffs was the main reason for the visit. However, the event also offered a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration and share knowledge in a more informal setting.

To mark the occasion, WEB hosted a dinner where the partners reflected not only on operational matters but also on the importance of solidarity and cooperation among the islands.

“While the focus was on strategic dialogue with ACM, we recognize the value of spending time together to strengthen relationships,” said Joanne Nicastia, CFO of WEB. “By building on shared ideas and experiences, we are working towards a stronger foundation for lasting collaboration.”

The utility companies reaffirmed their commitment to continue working together toward sustainable and resilient utility services for all communities in the BES islands.
