EZK delegation visits WEB and CGB energy projects on Bonaire

Kralendijk, April 22nd , 2024 – During a recent visit to Bonaire, the delegation from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK), led by the Secretary-General, Mr. Sandor Gaastra, and the Director-General for Kingdom Relations , Mr. Roald Lapperre, observed and discussed significant steps in the energy transition of Bonaire.

The visit included discussions with the executives of the Water -en Energiebedrijf   Bonaire (WEB) and ContourGlobal Bonaire (CGB), focused on the expansion of renewable energy and hybrid energy generation.

The delegation held meetings at WEB and visited crucial infrastructure, including SCADA, Hato and Barcadera, where work is in full swing. This also applies to the construction site of the Galileo sensor station. Special attention was given to the recently completed solar farm and the complexity of the realization of the wind farm which will soon be upgraded. This is not an easy task, but it is essential for the further development of sustainable energy on the island.

The visit highlights the dedication of both the Dutch government, WEB, CGB, as well as local authorities to the energy transition, which is crucial for the growing population and business activities on Bonaire. The collaboration between WEB, CGB, and the Dutch government offers promising perspectives for a sustainable future.

The results of these discussions and projects are of great importance for Bonaire and will be followed by further planning and execution in the period from 2024 to 2030. Bonaire is preparing itself for significant transitions that will not only have a positive impact on the local community but can also serve as an example of sustainable development in the region.
