Successful work visit of the standing committee on kingdom relations to WEB Bonaire.

Kralendijk, February 29TH , 2024 – The Bonaire Water -en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) welcomed a delegation of 15 members and 2 staff of the Standing committee on Kingdom Relations of the Dutch Senate (KOREL) for an informative and inspiring work visit.

Upon arrival, the members were warmly welcomed by Mrs. Joanne Balentien- Nicastia (CFO) and Gerrit Scharrenberg (COO) of WEB, who offered a brief presentation on the challenges of WEB and the company’s sustainable future plans. These plans underline WEB’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in water and energy supply on Bonaire. WEB also provided additional information on various projects such as GALILEO and the collaboration with the EU in 30 for 2030.

A highlight of the visit was the tour led by Mr. Gerrit Scharrenberg and Mr. Hans Staring, Manager of BU-Water, who guided the delegation through WEB’s drinking water production plant.

The delegates were given a behind-the-scenes look at the drinking water production plant, where they were able to observe the process of turning seawater into drinking water. The technology and efficiency of this process deeply impressed the members of the Senate, as did the excellent taste of the water.

As part of WEB’s initiative to promote sustainability, each delegate received a reusable water bottle filled with WEB water, a symbolic gesture that emphasizes the importance of water conservation and environmental awareness.

The delegation expressed its appreciation for the reception by WEB and the insight it was allowed to receive into the company’s numerous activities, particularly those focused on stable, sustainable drinking water production.
