Kralendijk, 29 September 2026 – Water -en Energiebedrijf Bonaire N.V. (WEB) announces that an additional discount will be applied to the variable electricity usage rate (kWh).
The Public Entity Bonaire (OLB) has made an amount of USD 6 million available as a rate subsidy for the variable electricity rates. This subsidy will be applied as an additional discount to the existing variable tariffs.
The decision to make these funds available is based on the importance of keeping energy affordable, maintaining purchasing power, and safeguarding the financial security of Bonaire’s residents.
For post-paid customers, the subsidy will be applied to the tariffs for the final four consumption months of 2026. For pre-paid customers, a relatively higher discount will be applied during the final three months of the year.
Effect for post-paid customers
The OLB subsidy means a discount of USD 0.1097/kWh. This brings the variable usage rate from 0.5021/kWh to USD 0.3924/kWh.
This discount applies to the upcoming invoices for:
Usage month starting September 2026; invoice sent in October 2026
Usage month starting October 2026; invoice sent in November 2026
Usage month starting November 2026; invoice sent in December 2026
Usage month starting December 2026; invoice sent in January 2027
Please note: Most customers have yet to receive a bill that primarily relates to their electricity consumption during the month of August. No discount has been applied to this bill yet, which will be issued at the end of September.
As some customers have already received a bill covering their August consumption, WEB has, as agreed, applied the subsidy for post-paid customers to the final four consumption months of 2026.
Post-paid customers will see the discount reflected for the first time on the bill that primarily relates to their electricity consumption in September.
Effect for pre-paid customers (Pagabon)
The OLB subsidy means a discount of USD 0.1463/kWh (*). This brings the Pagabon rate from 0.6642/kWh to USD 0.5179/kWh.
This discount applies to purchases in the period:
1 October 2026 through 31 December 2026.
(*) Pagabon customers receive during this period, per kWh 33% more discount than post-paid customers. This is because the discount for Pagabon applies over a different period.
