Kralendijk – January 10th, 2024 – Water- en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) wants to update the Bonaire community and stakeholders regarding recent power interruptions. On January 9th, we experienced a black-out due to technical issues at the power plant of Contour Global (CGB) at Karpata, which is being investigated.
Particularly, on January 9th, at 12.38 p.m., an unexpected power outage has occurred that affected the entire island. Both WEB and CGB technicians responded promptly, working diligently to resolve and restore power across Bonaire.
After completely restoring the electricity service to the island, the technical teams of WEB and CGB have been working together to find out the root cause of this unfortunate event. A proper and in-depth investigation is of utmost importance for all involved.
This is the reason WEB and CGB initiated a joint investigating committee to analyze this event and submit recommendations in order to safeguard the reliability of the power system.
WEB and CGB are deeply committed to providing reliable, uninterrupted energy services. Recognizing the critical importance of electricity for Bonaire, we are actively investing in infrastructure enhancements and expanding production capacity through both conventional and renewable resources to meet the growing electricity demand. This initiative aims to boost a more resilient power supply for the island.
