Reduction electricity rates during second half of 2023

Kralendijk, June 22nd 2023 – The variable electricity rates will be reduced by USD 0.0554 per kWh as of July 1, 2023. This is the result of reduced fuel costs for electricity production. This reduction applies to the variable usage rate and to the rate for Pagabon.

The fuel costs that Contour Global Bonaire (CGB) incurs for the production of electricity are passed on 1 to 1 to the customers of Water -en Energiebedrijf Bonaire (WEB) without a margin. The purchase price for this fuel has decreased by 19 percent compared to the rate as of January 1st, 2023.

To protect customers, these rates are set by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) on the basis of the BES Electricity and Drinking Water Act. Cost developments can lead to a variable usage tariff for electricity adjusted by ACM twice a year, namely on July 1st and January 1st. ACM has developed a model for these adjustments, the result of which – a reduction of USD 0.0554 per kWh as of July 1st, 2023 – has been set on June 8th, 2023.

Based on this, the following new variable electricity rates will apply from 1 July 2023:
Variable usage rate (post-paid) : USD 0.3516 per kWh
Rate Pagabon (pre-paid) : USD 0.3516 per kWh.

The change in the rate will be visible on the bills from the consumption period with a consumption start date in July. For pre-paid users (Pagabon), the adjusted rate is immediately visible from July 1, 2023. The (completely subsidized) fixed usage rate will not be adjusted on July 1st.

Electricity rates as of  July 1st, 2023
