Change electricity rates
Kralendijk, 29th December 2017 – WEB Bonaire will increase the electricity tariff by 0.073 dollar per kWh as of January 1st, 2018. Rise of production prices and fuel costs, combined with a rapidly growing demand, make a tariff increase necessary.
The tariff change has been discussed with the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy (EZK). Based on the tariff regulation required by law, ACM has stipulated a production price for ContourGlobal Bonaire as of 1st January 2018, which entails an increase of 0.045 dollar compared to 2016. This leads to an increase in purchasing costs for WEB. Due to the rapid growth in energy demand WEB must also invest more and incur additional expenses in order to guarantee continuity of the electricity supply.
Consequently, it is necessary to adjust the rate by 0.073 dollar per 1st January 2018. It should be noted that a new distribution tariff system will be introduced per 1st April 2018, regulated by ACM according to the BES Electricity and Drinking Water Act which is in effect since 1st July 2016.
The electricity tariffs as of 1st January 2018 are based on the authorized cost-covering annual revenue, as determined by ACM for the year 2018.
WEB is aware that, after the price reductions over the past five years, an increase will have consequences for individuals and businesses. WEB is at an advanced stage with preparations to arrive at structural solutions for an affordable, reliable and sustainable supply of electricity on Bonaire.
